The
Four Orbs (part one)
When
Scott woke, he was laying face-down in the water just off shore of an
overly populated island. He
heard a voice, “Scott, get up.” “What
da! Who be there!?” “It’s
me, the ancient of ancients, the guy capable of doin anything and
everything, who defies physics in every way, shape, and form, the very
spectacle of life itself, the Gindu Tree.”
“More like, Gloatius, Maximus.”
“That’s not funny. Look
man, you want to save your grandpa from Shadowy and his owner, do you?
That’s why you set out on this foolish quest in the first place.
Well, you’re in luck, for I can help you.”
“How?” “Well, if
you’re gonna try and beat up Shadow Guy you’re gonna have to trust
me.” “Okay, whatta I
do?” “You’re gonna
collect the four orbs. There’s
a blue one, a green, a red, and an orange.”
“Okay, where are they?” “On
different islands, but you’re gonna need a mode of transportation.
Luckily, you crashed on
Fourwind
Island, an entire island dedicated to commerce.
You could probably find an inflatable raft or something somewhere
in here.” So that’s
exactly what
he did. The Gindu Tree
wasn’t too thrilled but the heck with that talking stick!
Scott immediately set sail for Dragonlake
Island, where the first orb was located. Dragonlake
is where the Gerudas live, cause it is actually the top of Moler
Mountain. When Scott got there, he was
greeted by the Geruda king. “Greetings,
young adventurer!” the king boomed, “We’ve heard from the tree king
of your quest. Quite foolish
if you ask me, but indeed brave! None
of our kind has ever had the guts to venture into Blackcastle.”
“Well, I was only doing what I had to do,” Scott answered
nervously. “The tree king
notifies me that you desire the Red Orb, the royal jewel of the
Gerudas.” “Well, yes.
That’s what I came here for.”
“Unfortunately, I can’t help you there.”
“But you’re the king!” “Yes,
that may be true, but the orb lies in the Dragon
Lake, what this island was named after. It
was stolen by a big dragon who says to have once ruled an entire kingdom
he called ‘Gormia’. But
I’ve checked all major world atlases, and this ‘Gormia’ doesn’t
exist. Anyway, the dragon got
so angry, that he stole the orb and is now holding it in the inner-most
depths of Dragon
Lake. Also, he kidnapped the
Geruda mage, so I have no authority to retrieve it.
So if you want it, you’re going to have to get it.”
Guess what Scott did? He
went to get it. Dragon
Lake
has ultra-high temperatures, lava lakes, fire creatures, and basically
anything nasty from a videogame fire level.
The cavern extended many levels high.
Eventually he came to an opening.
It was the top of the island, where the mage usually sits.
Instead, there was a large hole where the altar once stood.
Scott jumped into the hole, fell many feet, then landed on
something soft. Then he heard
someone scream. It didn’t
take him that long to realize that the scream came from the dragon that he
landed on. The dragon flung
him to the ground, and Scott instantly knew who it was.
The ancient dragon of Gormia. Gorm.
Gorm was pretty huge, and could cause Scott quite a bit of ouch.
Scott tried all of his weapons on Gorm, but every time it just got
him knocked down. Suddenly, he
heard someone shouting to him. He
turned around and saw the Geruda mage calling to him from inside a cell.
“Kid! Get over
here!” Scott ran to the
mage. “Listen, that magic
wand you’ve got, it can beat Gorm, but not the way you’re using it.”
The mage took Scott’s spell book and wrote something in it.
“This is the fire spell. Use
it to throw a fireball at Gorm.” Just
then, Gorm came smashing in and knocked Scott to the ground.
Scott quickly skimmed over the words the mage had written, held out
his wand, and repeated the words on the page.
A fireball flung itself out of Scott’s wand and smashed into the
dragon. Gorm screamed out in
pain. A few more hits like
this, and Gorm had had enough. It
flew off, swearing revenge. As
if by some sort of magic, the cell door opened, and the mage came out.
They followed a path out of
Dragon
Lake
. There was a huge party at
Dragonlake
Island
that day. Before Scott left on
his raft, the mage came up to him. “Thank
you for getting rid of that dragon. Take
this as a sign of my gratitude.” The
mage handed Scott the Red Orb. “Come
on Scott, you’d better get going.” the Gindu Tree said telepathically.
After he had set sail, Scott asked the tree where he was going
next. “The next orb is the
green one. It is in the
Forest
of
Mystery
. I have it.
I wanted to make sure you were the one before I gave you my orb,
but you’ve proved yourself.” “What
do you mean, ‘the one’?” “Oh,
nothing. Just hurry up and get
here.” So our hero sailed on
his raft all the way down to the
Forest
of
Mystery
. Once inside, he saw an
immense tree in the middle of the island.
He just stood there staring at it until he heard the voice speak,
but it wasn’t in his head. He
realized that the tree itself was speaking to him.
“It’s nice to finally meet you in person,” the tree
said,”but we’ve got something to take care of first.
Gindols, emerge!” At
that moment, tons of little plant people started popping out of the
ground. “Gindols, this is
Scott.” said the tree. “He’s the one I’ve been telling you
about.” All the Gindols
crowded around him, trying to get a good look at him.
Scott stared at them all, but his gaze fell on one in particular.
Just then the tree burst out, “Galo, bring the orb!”
The Gindol Scott was watching hopped up and replied, “Yes
honorable father,” then ran off somewhere.
“Honorable father?” Scott asked.
“All the Gindols are my children,” the tree replied.
Then the Gindol called Galo came back in with a worried look.
“Honorable father! The
orb was stolen by something that came up out of the water and it took it
into the Forest Shrine!” “Holy
Crap! The
Forest
Shrine? If that’s true, were
all doomed!” the tree boomed. “Don’t
worry Father, I will retrieve it,” Galo said, and flew off.
“Wait! Don’t!”
the tree shouted, but it was too late.
She had left. “What
are we gonna do?” the tree muttered.
“I’ll go.” Scott said. “Okay,
but the Forest Shrine is a very dangerous place.”
“Just tell me how to get there.”
So Scott set off to the Forest Shrine.
The Shrine was a very dangerous place full of venuses, flyhats, and
any forest monster imaginable. Scott
was able to find a powerful boomerang that allowed him to cut through the
vines that lined the Shrine. Finally,
he fell down a long shaft and landed in a large room, where he saw Galo
tied to a wall. “Get out of
here,” Galo warned, but before she could say anything else, a strange
figure started to rise from the ground.
He looked like a man, but his skin was green, and his legs were
made up of vines coming out of the ground.
“Foolish mortal, heed the girl’s warning,” the thing said.
“Who are you?” Scott stammered.
“I am Driaddon, the guardian of this shrine.
I have won over a thousand battles, and lost one, but that beetle
cheated! The orb belongs to me
now.” “I need it!”
“Tell you what, if you can beat me in a fight, you can have the
orb and the girl, but if you lose, I get your souls!” “Whoa, for
real!” “Nah, I’ll just
kill you both reeeeeaaaal slowly.” “You’re
sick!” Galo yelled. “Shut
up. You’re not allowed in this fight.
Now let’s go !” Driaddon was hard.
Harder than anything Scott had faced before.
After about five minutes, Scott was bleeding all over and Driaddon
had barely broke a sweat. “Guess
you’re gonna have to die,” Driaddon teased. “How would you like to
go” Suddenly, Galo yelled
out, “Driaddon, look! A
flip-phone!” “What the hec, Ow!” “Beware of things superior,”
Scott said, “and of my wand.” “You
suck” Driaddon muttered. After
a lot of fighting and confusion, Driaddon finally fell.
“You may have killed me, but my spirit will haunt your
descendants!” Suddenly, like after most levels have been completed, a
beam of light came down and teleported Scott and Galo back to the tree.
“Great job Scott, but, where’s the orb?” the tree asked.
“I’ve got it,” Galo said, “now will someone untie me?!”
After everything was settled, Scott left for his raft. Galo slowly
approached him. “Uh, Scott,” “What do You want?” “Uh, well, thanks for saving me and everything. Um,
after you’re done with your adventure and everything, come back to the
forest, okay?” “Whatever.”
